A deadly ambush in Afghanistan is going to end up helping troops from the Upstate.
The ambush on a U.S. camp in Afghanistan on Oct. the 8th killed 8 people from a unit based out of Fort Carson, Colorado. In that unit are 3 soldiers from the Upstate. They survived the attack, but all 56 survivors lost everything in the fight.
The American Legion and others raised enough money to replenish the supplies and comfort items for the soldiers.
Grateful for the support, two of the local soldiers dads decided to start the Upstate Military Support Coalition. Besides their website, they also have a Facebook page.
“We were so touched by the outpouring of support that we want to keep it going. We want to extend it not just to our guys, but to every deployed military personal from the Upstate,” says founder Bill Cady.
Once they get the non-profit support coalition up and running they want to start sending care packages to Upstate military members who are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
