One person is dead and a portion of Interstate 85 is closed after wreck Saturday morning.
The wreck happened at 6 am between mile markers 32 and 33 on I-85 northbound. According to Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, identified by Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown as 36-year old Eric Dozier, of Pendleton, lost control of the vehicle and struck the median. Hiles says that Dozier then overcorrected and went off the side of the interstate and struck a guardrail before going back onto the interstate, where he was struck by a FedEx 18-wheeler carrying a second trailer. His truck then caught fire and McCown says that Dozier was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second trailer of the 18-wheeler overturned and has blocked the northbound lane.
Hiles says that the wreck will likely tie up traffic until around noon Saturday. Motorists are urged to take a detour at exit 32 and use Highway 29 to get back onto I-85 and avoid the wreck.
McCown says that Dozier was going to work at his job in Greenville when the wreck occurred.
