In this week leading up to Halloween finding a deal at traditional costume stores could be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. But head to any of the 27 goodwill stores in western South Carolina and you'll find a lot more bang for your buck.

“We went to another store yesterday and not even one item totaled what we spent today,” said N ancy Moreno Martinez. She spent $11.50 for seven Halloween items, a far cry from the $20 to $50 dollar-a-piece costumes you'll find at other stores.

Bargain costume shoppers are the main reason why October is the monthly highest sales for Goodwill, even above the Christmas holiday.

And while the price is right, you can also feel good for another reason.

“You're also helping people in your communities because all the money that we turn around at goodwill goes to helping people find employment in our community,” said Anthony Liller with Goodwill.

And when the trick or treating has come and gone, Goodwill suggests donating your costume back to the store for a tax break.
