CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - People will have a chance to see what's it's like to be an archaeologist during a public dig scheduled to start at a South Carolina plantation.
The Second Annual Drayton Hall Archaeological Institute opens Tuesday at the plantation house on the Ashley River outside of Charleston.
For 10 days over two weeks, the dig will attempt to better understand features such as a fortification trench associated with an earlier building at the site.
Drayton Hall dates to 1738 and is one of a handful of homes built before the Revolutionary War that remains close to its original condition.
