"I'd tell him to go to hell where he come from," said 71-year old kidnapping victim William Payne on Tuesday afternoon.
That's what Payne said he would tell Jerry Case if he could talk to him in person. He said he can't forgive the ex-felon for kidnapping him, his daughter Natasha and her 2 children from Gaston County, North Carolina this past summer. The children were 7-years-old and 7 months old at the time. Investigators say two of the victims were kidnapped at a fishing hole, Case ordered them to drive home, where the rest of the family was taken at gunpoint.
"Somebody does something like that ain't very much a man," Payne said.
Case is charged with kidnapping and carjacking. The family said they were able to escape after 14 hours once Case stopped at this gas station in Cherokee County. Payne said Case sat in the backseat with the kids and held the gun on them several times. Case was later wounded in a shootout with police.
In a courtroom in this federal building the judge asked case if he was guilty of the charges. He quietly answered, "Yes, Sir." His mom, sister and nephew were there as well as a victim. Payne told us that victim was his daughter, Natasha. Se would not comment to us on camera.
Neither would Case's family. His mother and sister cried through the court proceedings Tuesday morning.
Payne says Case's family knew what was happening that terrifying day.
"They was talking back and forth with him on the phone," said Payne. "They knew he had us."
Now he can only hope justice will be served at his sentencing.
"I hope they hang him but that ain't gonna happen," said Payne. "They might turn him loose."
Case's sentencing date has not yet been set. He could face life in prison and well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.
Jerry case was convicted of killing a cab driver in the 1980s and sentenced to death, but that was changed to life in prison. He was out on parole at the time of the kidnapping.
