COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Leaders from government, academia and the forest industry are meeting to discuss ways to grow the future of South Carolina's $17 billion forestry industry.
Wednesday's conference at Harbison State Forest in Columbia will include discussions of the economic, political and environmental effects on forestry.
It will also focus on a plan to increase the impact of forestry to $20 billion within six years - a plan dubbed "20-by-15."
The sponsors of the conference, the South Carolina Forestry Commission and the South Carolina Forestry Association, say it's the first meeting of its kind ever held in the state.
