Clemson City Councilwoman Suspended Amid Fraud Investigation

Governor Mark Sanford suspended Clemson City Councilwoman Elouise James Friday amid a fraud investigation. James was indicted by a grand jury October 20 for exploitation of a vulnerable adult, forgery and obstruction of justice.
Investigators say James made up a story about her daughter having cancer, so she could collect cash donations. According to arrest warrants, the money was used to cover her daughter's legal fees, after she got in trouble with the law. If convicted, James faces 21 years in prison.
James's suspension from council stands until she is formally acquitted or convicted.
