MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -Myrtle Beach is breaking ground on a mile-long new boardwalk in the heart of South Carolina's most popular tourist destination.
Multiple media outlets report that instead of gold shovels, city officials will use brightly colored plastic shovels and pails for Tuesday morning's ceremony.
Officials want to have the $6 million boardwalk finished by Easter. The city plans to install Web cams so people around the world can track the project's progress.
Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea says the city hopes the boardwalk will bring new life to downtown Myrtle Beach.
The heart of the Grand Strand city has struggled since the Pavilion amusement park closed.
