"It is a dangerous tree it should be removed," said tenant Joe Boch.
Boch said he's been trying to get rid of this dead tree behind his rental home since last year. He said it's not his landlord's responsibility because the property ends at the privacy fence and the dead tree is several yards away.
He said he complained to the City of Greer and the building inspector sent letters to the property owner at two different addresses saying the tree had to come down. Those letters were returned to sender for insufficient address.
"All (the City of Greer) said was we did not get a response from the certified letter we sent out," Boch said.
In the meantime, that tree fell and has been sitting there for months. Boch said another tree is looking dangerously close to coming down, as well.
"It may be just held up by the smaller tree," Boch said.
News Channel 7 spoke with Boch's landlord and he said that area behind his home is considered common ground and maintained by the homeowners association.
"We learned yesterday the homeowner's association has had this all along and have been paying taxes on it," said Boch
The City of Greer told us Greenville county records show the property is owned by Upcountry Cottage LLC in care of Dennis Fish. Boch said Fish happens to be his next door neighbor.
Fish told us he is the homeowner's association treasurer and said the association was going to take care of the problem and have the tree cut down.
It's a relief for Boch who feared the worst if something wasn't done soon.
If you don't remove dead or dying trees it could cost you. In the City of Greer violations can cost offenders a fine of up to $500 and up to 30 days in jail.
