35-year-old Leon Choice stood in court and told a judge he broke into a house and shot his girlfriend, Angela Workman.
Choice pleaded guilty to murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Workman's 4-year-old son was home at the time of the murder.
Choice apologized to the Workman family and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
