One person is dead after an early morning accident in Greenville County.

The accident happened at 1:30 Sunday morning on Interstate 385 northbound, near Fountain Inn. Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the South Carolina Highway Patrol says that the unidentified male driver of a 2004 Nissan sedan lost control of the vehicle, went through the median and cable barriers and struck a 1972 Volkswagen van head-on.

The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, Amr Rajja, of Chesterfield, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. His condition was not immediately known.

McDougald says the accident remains under investigation.
