MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A new $16 million boardwalk on the South Carolina coast won't open until spring, but residents aren't waiting that long to throw a party.
A two-day celebration kicks off Friday to mark the start of the project.
The mile-long boardwalk will provide oceanfront views in the heart of Myrtle Beach.
A block party begins Friday evening with a performance by The Temptations Review. Saturday afternoon and evening there is more music with The Fantastic Shakers, Charlie Thomas' Drifters, Legends of the Beach and The Stylistics. There's also a classic car show and shag dancing.
The event is being held from 8th Ave. North to 10th Ave. North. Myrtle Beach is the heart of South Carolina's $16 billion tourism industry.
