Coroner: Ambulance Delay Had No Impact In Columbia Boy's Death

A South Carolina coroner says a four-minute delay in taking a 3-year-old boy to the hospital had nothing to do with his death.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina coroner says a four-minute delay in taking a 3-year-old boy to the hospital had nothing to do with his death.
Multiple media outlets reported that Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Monday that Jadan Myers-Pugh of Columbia died Sept. 17 from complications of swine flu. Watts says the boy was actually dead when his mother found him.
A Columbia fire department chaplain complained about a Richland County policy that prohibits firefighters from driving ambulances.
Firefighters arrived before the ambulance.
But because two EMS workers were needed to try to care for Jadan, EMS workers waited for a second ambulance for a worker to drive the first ambulance to the hospital.
Fire Chief Bradley Anderson says he doesn't condone the chaplain's statement.
