Greenville County Sheriff's deputies confirm they are looking into the claims of sexual assault that the girl says took place on April 1st, at a home in the Bryson Meadows community of Simpsonville.
Detectives with the Simpsonville Police Department turned over the case to the sheriffs office late today, after it became apparent the accused teen is related to a Simpsonville officer.
The 15-year-old girl told investigators she was raped by a younger teen as two other teens inside the home ignored her calls for help.
The Greenville County Sheriffs Office spokeswoman, Melissia McKinney, confirmed late Monday they have an active investigation into the sexual assault claims. The girl and her mother talked exclusively to News Channel 7's Jonathan Carlson about what they say happened.
"The three young boys were playing," the girl's mother told us. "She felt uncomfortable--she went to the bathroom, because she didn't know what to do. She didn't know how to go about leaving. The two boys were going upstairs--the {third} boy pulled her into the living room {and} he pushed her over the arm of the chair."
And sexually assaulted her. The girl told police she was lured to the home by a boy she liked. The 14 year old she says raped her, was not him. And she says she told him no.
"When she was leaving---he kept asking her--'I didn't know you were serious' {about saying 'no'}." She says the teen kept saying, "This never happened--this never happened--and she said she just looked at him in tears and ran out the door."
When asked if the girl had a reason to lie, the mother said no, adding, "She knows the seriousness of what she is implicating with him."
The 15 year old alleged victim, told us, "Right now I'm scared to go outside. I don't want to see him." She continued, "I was just saying--no--no--let me go--stop."
Because of a possible conflict of interest, the Simpsonville Police Department has turned the investigation over to the sheriffs office.
The accused teen is related to a Simpsonville Police Officer, according to Police Chief Charles Reece.
The victim's family reported the rape on April 1st. The girl and her family are asking police to believe the story and make progress bringing this to a resolution.
The girl says, "This was serious, and I wouldn't lie about something like that. I do believe some of them {police} might think I agreed to having sex with him which i didn't."
The Simpsonville Police Chief did not want to make further comment, since this case has been handed over to the sheriffs office. The Greenville County Sheriffs Office tells us their detectives are still beginning their part of the investigation, and will have further comment as the case moves forward.
