Upstate residents will have another day of free dental, medical, and vision care Saturday in Greenville.
WHERE: Carolina First Center
One Exposition Drive
WHEN: Saturday, August 7
6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA), AccessHealth SC and the South Carolina Optometric Association will join with providers throughout the state to present SC Mission 2010, which will be held in conjunction with the South Carolina Dental Association’s Dental Access Days (DAD).
Working together, licensed health practitioners will provide dental, medical, and vision services to low income, uninsured adults on a first-come, first-served basis. Behavioral health services, sexually transmitted disease counseling, and patient education on the most common chronic health conditions will also be available.
The sponsors expect about 500 volunteers including physicians, nurses, dentists, optometrists, pharmacy and lab specialists, medical and nursing students, and lay persons to participate in the two-day event.
Dental Access Days (DAD) is an adult dental clinic available to residents of South Carolina. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis starting around 6 am. Activities wrapped up early evening on Friday and will wrap up early Saturday afternoon around 2. Patients will fill out a brief medical history, have a blood pressure check done and be examined by a dentist. Cleanings, fillings and/or extractions are the services that will be provided.
Organizers say almost 1,600 patients were treated at the 2009 event in Charleston and nearly $600,000 in treatment was provided for free. A similar response in Greenville is expected.
