Former Greenville County Councilman Tony Trout was released from federal prison Thursday morning in West Virginia.
Trout was convicted in April 2009 of putting spyware on Greenville County employees’ computers and using the information without their knowledge.
He was found guilty on the charges of unlawful access to computers, distribution of information and intercepting emails. He was found not guilty of destroying evidence.
Former U.S. Attorney Walt Wilkins tells News Channel 7 Trout was released after serving ten months of his one year and one day sentence. That means he served 85 percent of his sentence under federal guidelines.
Wilkins says Trout will be on supervised release and will be on three years probation.
