UPDATED Aug. 11, 2010, 12:16 p.m.:
Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said he terminated Deputy Brent Moore for a policy and procedure violation that is connected to a Sheriff Office’s internal affairs investigation. Moore had been suspended without pay and that investigation continues. Skipper said SLED is also conducting a criminal investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
As News Channel 7 reported last week, Moore was the deputy who arrested former Anderson County Administrator Joey Preston, who's charges were later dropped, but Skipper still says this investigation has nothing to do with that case.
SKipper said Moore was a member of the CATCH (Criminal Apprehension Through Community Help) team. The DUI enforcement team is paid for by a grant, but the sheriff said this dismissal will not impact that grant.

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said Brent Moore, the same deputy who arrested former Anderson County Administrator Joey Preston for DUI, has been suspended without pay.
Charges against Preston were later dropped.
However, Skipper stresses the suspension has nothing to do with the Preston case. Skipper said the sheriff's office's Internal Affairs division is investigating what they believe to be a department policy violation. Skipper said this is a personnel matter and he cannot comment any further.
Skipper said SLED will review the case as part of a checks and balances system, but the agency has not been brought into the case at this point.
