Anderson City Council members voted 5-4 in favor of hiring a consulting firm to help create a "model block" with housing in the city limits, according to our news coverage partners at the Anderson Independent-Mail.
According to the newspaper, the decision to spend $93,630 for the consulting firm will help create the "model block" with housing at the corner of Murray Avenue and Franklin Street. The Independent-Mail reports that the city already has a contract with Atlanta-based Asset Property Disposition, who is helping to implement the city's revitalization plan. Monday's vote amended the existing contract to spend more money for its services.
Anderson City Director of Neighborhood and Transit Services Willie Day told the Independent-Mail that the company would draw up a site plan that would include the style of houses the city is looking for, and would also help identify developers who would build to suit the city's needs. The newspaper reports that the plan, as it stands, includes 36 townhouses and six single-family homes. It also includes "gateways: to identify the neighborhood at Jefferson and River Streets and another on Whitner Street.
