Updated Dec. 10, 2:15 p.m.

According the Greenville County Animal Services Pookie is currently in an experienced foster home.

The foster parent is working with the vet very closely.

The foster parent takes Pookie to the vet every 2 or 3 days for his burns.

Pookie will be in this foster home for some time until medical issues are taken care of.

Any home Pookie winds up in must be evaluated to be sure the adoptive parents can care for the animal’s special needs.

Posted Dec. 9, 3:27 p.m.:

Police arrested Isaac Henry Anderson Wednesday and charged him with setting a dog on fire in Greenville on Nov. 9.

The dog, Pookie, was found in a dog house with a cinder block pinning the animal down.

The dog house was burning when they found Pookie.

After firefighters put the Perry Avenue fire out, the dog was taken to a nearby shelter and treated for its injuries.

Veterinarians worried Pookie would lose his eyesight, but the dog seems to be recovery well.

The community reacted to the story and provided donations for Pookie’s medical treatment and offers to take the animal in.

The North Greenville Animal Hospital received $1,400 in donations and the Greenville Animal Shelter received $3,000.

Pookie went through surgery to remove skin that was too burned to be salvaged.

After receiving dozens of tips, calls, emails and texts about the incident through CRIMESTOPPERS, police made an arrest.

Anderson is charged with ill treatment of animals, arson and criminal conspiracy.

Warrants released in the case accuse Anderson of conspiring with someone else to commit the crime.

Police say they believe there is another person involved in the case and is looking for the suspect.

Officers tell News Channel 7, Anderson was hired and paid to carry out the killing.

The motive for why anyone would want to kill Pookie is not known.

According to the North Greenville Animal Hospital Pookie is now in a foster home, and has been since Monday.
