Postal workers are getting ready for their busiest day of the year on Monday. Get ready for long lines at all locations. More than 800 million cards, letters, and packages are expected to be mailed off nationwide. To avoid lines at the U.S. Postal Service, you can click here to print labels and pay online.
The deadline for shipping priority mail (2-3 days) is Tuesday, December, 21. To guarantee your packages will get there by Christmas use express mail which is guaranteed overnight and the package cost is reimbursed if it doesn’t arrive on time.
The US Postal Service has hired extra workers in processing to make sure things run smoothly and deliveries will also be made on Christmas Day.
“There are no surcharges on shipping so if it fits it ships up to 70 lbs,” said Harry Spratlin at the SC USPS.
If you can’t get to the post office there are other remote locations where you can ship you packages through the US Postal Service. There are 29 automated postal stations throughout the state open 24/7. You may use your credit card to generate a postage paid label and put your mail in the shoot at the location.
Office Depots in South Carolina will also ship your packages with the same priority through the US Postal Service.
One other option is click and ship where you can go online, generate a postage paid label and notify your carrier online of where to pick it up.
To keep your packages moving quickly the Postal Service also recommends using their boxes and tape to wrap your items. Packaging with Priority and Express mail is completely free.
“Remove all previously used labels and do not use masking tape, duct tape, brown paper or string because they are libel to fail in house and inhibit our automated machinery,” said Spratlin.
