Deputy Attorney General Bob Cook, Attorney General Henry McMaster, Wes Hayes Senator of York County and members of the bi-state commission announce the end of the State Water War with North Carolina over the removal of water from the Catawba River.
South Carolina's top prosecutor, Attorney General Henry McMaster, made an announcement Tuesday ending the South Carolina, North Carolina water dispute over the Catawba River
McMaster in 2007 filed a lawsuit to stop a plan to allow two North Carolina cities to pump up to 10 million gallons a day from the Catawba and Yadkin river basins, both of which cross the state line with South Carolina.
A bistate commission has approved an agreement among the two states, a power company and a public utility.
The study uses a Comprehensive Relicensing Agreement created by Duke Energy.
Some of the agreements include reducing water removed in the case of a drought,
conducting environmental impact studies and doing an individual study of the river every 10 years.
