A man living along the Reedy River had to be rescued Monday afternoon after fire officials say he fell into the river, knocking himself unconscious on the rocks. The accident happened about 5:30 in Falls Park.
The Greenville Fire Department tells News Channel 7 that the man, who has not been identified, was spotted slumped over in the river by a police officer on routine patrol of the park, with only his head and shoulders above the rushing water. Police pulled the man ashore, where he regained consciousness. Rescue workers had to haul the man up the steep bank to an awaiting EMS unit behind the Chamber of Commerce building.
The man was transported to Greenville Memorial with a minor head wound. The victim was apparently living in a culvert near the Church Street overpass, along the banks of the river. Food, medicine and clothing were discovered near where he was found.
