Woodruff developer Terry Glenn Lanford made his first appearance in Federal court Thursday morning in Greenville. He was arraigned on a charge of conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and methamphetamine.
Lanford is accused of conspiring with former Spartanburg County Clerk of Court Marc Kitchens to sell drugs stolen from the Spartanburg County courthouse evidence room.
The two were arrested earlier this month in an undercover sting.
Lanford told US District Judge Bruce Hendricks he understands the charge against him. The judge instructed the clerk to enter a plea of "not guilty" on his behalf.
As he was leaving the courthouse, Lanford said he had no comment on the allegations that he conspired with Kitchens and delivered drugs to a dealer in Florida.
But he did say he would like to thank the people of Woodruff for their support during the last few weeks.
"They've been very kind and good to me," said Lanford, owner of Lanford Properties. "There are a lot of good, Christian people in Woodruff and I really appreciate them standing by me."
