The funeral for a soldier with ties to the upstate was held today in Chesnee.
Before a packed church of mourners at Buck Creek Baptist Church, Sgt. Jeremiah Wittman was was given full military honors for making the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Wittman, from Billings, Montana, was killed on February 13 in Afghanistan after enemy forces struck his unit with an improvised explosive device near the Zhari Province.
Two other members of Wittman's unit was killed as a result of the blast. He had been deployed to Afghanistan after serving an 18 month tour in Iraq.
Wittman's wife and three-year old daughter were staying with her mother in Chesnee when he was killed.
