Thursday 5:15 a.m. Update
A police dog who was injured in a crash that shut down Interstate 85 in Oconee County has reportedly died. The dog named Dasher had swelling on his belly Wednesday morning following the accident on Tuesday.
A veterinarian said Dasher's stomach was twisted in the crash, and surgery would only add several days to his life. So, his handler had him euthanized so he would not suffer.
The accident is still under investigation.
