Upstate 1st Grader Raises Money for Haiti Earthquake Victims

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A country devastated and the images of the earthquake in Haiti are prompting many people in the Upstate to help out.

Some who are pitching in, aren't the ones you would first think of.

Maggie Ingraham is a first grader at Houston Elementary School in Spartanburg. Her mom says that after watching the destruction in Haiti on the news, Maggie decided she wanted to do something to help. So she's making pot holders with her new loom, that she got for Christmas, and is selling them at school to raise money for the earthquake victims.

“I want to help Haiti… because they had the earthquake and I heard yesterday (Wednesday) morning they had another one, so I decided to make a lot of pot holders,” says Maggie.

The pot holders cost $3 a piece and Maggie is hoping to raise $300 for the American Red Cross. If you would like to buy a pot holder, you can call Houston Elementary School in Spartanburg at: 864-594-4448.
