Many of us have old computers gathering dust in our closets, attics or garages. In this tough economy, recycling your old computers not only can help the earth, but you can also help the needy.
These aren't garbage men or women, but they will take your old computers.
"They back it up and they took it all out," said David Dytman, of David Michael's Salon and Day Spa. "It was great."
Stacey Parmelee and her daughter, Sarah, are dropping off their old computers outside of David Michael's Salon and Day Spa for Goodwill Industries.
"We also knew someone could use them," said Stacey Parmalee. "It's wonderful. Rather than throw it away, so it's not used aain, someone else is going to get it. That's great."
Dytman says he got the idea for the computer drive after touring Goodwill.
"I said that'ssomething I needed to be involved with," said Dytman. "That's something that would be perfect for me to help out the community and bring awareness to this great project that Goodwill's doing that most people don't even know about."
'We realize a lot of people don't know what to do with their computers and printers and monitors that they're no longer using," said Tony Liller of Goodwill. "They know they're not supposed to go into a landfill, but they don't know what to do with them."
Of the donated computers, the ones that are either broken or too old, they'll be recycled. However, the ones that are usable, will be refurbished and then Goodwill will turn around and sell them for about $100. That will give some people that need it the most a great deal.
"It's a great thing," said Mark Dease, who was donating some computers. "You don't want them to go into the landfill. Anything you can bring over to help people is a good thing."
If you would like to donate your old computers, youy can do so at any Goodwill store.
