February 2nd Update
Seneca-- Officials may decide Tuesday if fans will be allowed to watch a high school basketball game. Daniel and Seneca High Schools were scheduled to play last Friday night, but the winter storm postponed the game until February 10th.
Pickens County School District Officials had closed the name to the public because of a drive-by shooting last month in Seneca. That was followed by serious threats against the safety of two Daniel players.
Police have made four arrests in the shooting and ruled out a connection between the rivalry and the gunfire.
News Channel 7 will update this story.
January 30th Update
SENECA - Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Seneca that contributed to officials closing a high school basketball game to the public.
The Seneca Police Department announced the arrests of 17-year old Colby Edward Watts, of Westminster, 18-year old Jeremy Lawing, of Westminster, 18-year old Jeffery Willimon Sandifer, of Westminster, and 20-year old Keith Moore, of Mountain Rest, and charged each with firing into a dwelling.
Seneca Police Chief John Covington says that the shooting happened last Sunday at 303 Thomas Heights Circle in Seneca. Thus far, investigators do not have a motive for the shooting, but Covington says that a total of 12 rounds were fired into the dwelling from seperate weapons and people in seperate vehicles.
The shooting was a main reason that Friday's scheduled basketball games between Seneca and Daniel High School were closed to the public. Law enforcement said that the propensity to violence at previous games involving the two schools and the shooting prompted the closing.
Due to inclement weather, the game has since been postponed.
