One person had to be airlifted to Mission Hospital and two others transported by ambulance after a Monday evening accident in Henderson County, according to our coverage partners at the Hendersonville Times-News.
The Times-News reports that the accident happened at 5:30 pm on Highway 64, in front of Heartsing Court. According to the report, North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Jeff Cloud said that an Infiniti G20 crossed the center line and hit a Lincoln MKZ head on. Cloud told the Times-News that it appears that the unidentified driver of the Infiniti apparently fell asleep at the wheel and crossed into oncoming traffic.
The newspaper reports that the driver of the Infiniti was airlifted to Mission Hospital, while the driver of the Lincolne, identified as Rosalyn Falk and a passenger, identified as Falk's husband, Herbert Falk, had to be extricated from their vehicle and transported by ambulance.
Traffic on Highway 64 from Banner Farm Road to Etowah-Horse Shoe Fire Department was blocked for more than an hour, the Times-News reports.
Earlier in the day, three people were injured in a seperate accident in Mills River, the Times-News reported.
The newspaper states that 31-year old Jeremy Parker was driving a Dodge Neon westbound on Highway 280 around 10:45 Monday morning when he crossed the center line and struck a oncoming Honda Pilot.
The driver of the Honda Pilot, identified as 75-year old Tommy Cobb, of Sapphire, attempted to swerve to miss Parker, but were hit in the front corner of the vehicle. Cobb's wife, 76-year old Betty Cobb, was a passenger in the vehicle when it flipped over and trapped them.
The Times-News reports that Parker suffered a broken leg and was trapped inside the Neon, which has overturned. The Cobbs' were alert and transported to Mission Hospital, according to the newspaper.
Parker was cited with driving with a revoked license and driving while impaired, although the Times-News reports that a North Carolina State Trooper would not specify what Parker was under the influence from.
