Greenville County deputies arrested a man who resembled a man they were searching for, for most of Tuesday.
The Sheriff's Office arrested 36-year old Anthony Dale Abbott, of Piedmont, on an outstanding warrant for criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature stemming from an incident on June 18.
For much of Tuesday, Greenville County Sheriff's Deputies and U.S. Marshals searched the Taylors area for Robert Anthony Gracely, an alleged meth trafficker who posed a remarkable resemblance to Abbott, and was wanted for failing to appear in court. As a matter of fact, the resemblance between the two men is what led to Abbott's arrest.
After searching for Gracely most of Tuesday, deputies responded to Piedmont after receiving a tip that Gracely had been spotted. When deputies arrived on scene, a man whom they believed to be Gracely had taken off on foot and a chase ensued.
Sheriff's deputies from Greenville and Anderson counties combed through the wooded areas surrounding the Saluda River until the man was located and placed under arrest at the end of Prospect Street. Deputies initially identified the man as Gracely due to his resemblance, but it was revealed a short time later that it was actually Abbott who had been arrested on the outstanding warrant for CDV.
Greenville County Sheriff's spokesman Sam Cureton said that further charges may be pending against Abbott, who allegedly choked a woman and caused her to be deprived her of oxygen.
Meanwhile, Gracely was still on the loose. The search for Gracely who is considered dangerous, has since been called off.
If anyone has seen Gracely, they are asked to call the Greenville County Sheriff's Office at (864) 462-2020 or Greenville County Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME
