The Greenville County Recreation District broke ground on a new baseball complex at Greenville Municipal Stadium.
The $4 million project, which features four baseball fields at the stadium that used to be the home of the Greenville Braves, is a key component of what they envision as a 800 acre "Central Park" project in Greenville County with Lake Conestee as the main attraction.
The project will bring four baseball fields and renovate the 25 year old baseball stadium, according to Greenville County Recreation District Executive Director Gene Smith. The project's history includes partners from several different organizations, including Greenville County Council, which designated $4 million in Hospitality Funding.
Nearly 450 acres of nature trails and forest are available at the Lake Conestee Nature Park with 150 acres of landfill on the Reedy River available for recreational use. The stadium and new baseball complex will serve area residents and attract major tournaments.
“This offers residents and visitors to our community a centrally located facility that combines both passive and active recreational opportunities,” said Smith. The project and the partnerships that brought it to fruition help make Greenville a tremendous place to live, work, and raise families.”
