A woman was stabbed to death with a large kitchen knife, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
It happened at 12 Kathy's Way in Piedmont around 12:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Investigators charged 28-year-old Zacharia Atle Pearson, of Pelzer, with murder.
Deputies say Pearson and the 24-year-old victim were arguing when Pearson walked into the kitchen, grabbed a large knife, and stabbed the woman in the upper chest and neck.
Investigators say the knife broke during the stabbing, so Pearson attacked another man and woman at the home.
During that assault, the stabbing victim fled to a home on 521 Dalton Road, where she collapsed on the front porch and died.
Greenville Deputy Coroner Karie Cain later identified her as Christine Lacey Crane, 24, of Greenville.
The cause of death is stab wounds to the neck.
The two assault victims left the home on Kathy's Way and hid nearby until deputies got to the scene. The Sheriff's Office says one female was transported to the hospital for facial injuries she sustained during the assault. The male victim suffered facial injuries, but did not require hospitalization.
Investigators say Pearson left the scene and went to 533 Dalton Road. A man nearby heard what was going on and went towards the edge of his property to see what was going on.
Investigators say Pearson had a pipe in one hand and charged the resident. That resident ran towards his home, but Pearson followed. The resident had a concealed weapons permit and then used his gun to shoot Pearson twice. The shooting of Pearson is being investigated as a separate but related incident. The person who shot Pearson is not facing any charges.
SLED released Pearson's rap sheet Monday.
It shows that Pearson was arrested in last August and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. The rap sheet doesn't show whether Pearson had been to trial on the charge.
Pearson also has a felony conviction for reckless homicide. The conviction stems from an accident involving a vehicle.
Pearson was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where his condition is unknown. When he is released he will be taken to the Sheriff's Office where he will be served with the active warrant for murder.
