A church member made a shocking discovery on the way in to worship Sunday morning.

Investigators say the person called 9-1-1 after noticing a fire in the parking lot of New Springs Church in Anderson County.

Firefighters say at least six cars are destroyed and about another half dozen damaged by fire.

Investigators aren't sure what caused the fire but they do not think it is suspicious.

 Nobody was hurt.

They believe one car may have caught fire and then spread across the parking lot.

"We have completed our investigation. We feel like it started under the hood of one of the vehicles that was kind of in the middle of all the ones that were damaged. the damage was pretty severe, so being able to pinpoint the exact cause is going to be difficult, but we don't feel like it was anything other than an accident," said Chief Billy Gibson, with Anderson Fire Department.

Gibson said regular maintenance helps prevents fires like this. He also said a number of components in an engine are capable of catching fire.
