Outdated political signs on a busy highway in boiling springs are causing some residents to speak out.
They say they want the signs taken down, now.
We talked to the Department of Transportation to find out who is responsible for what residents call a "tacky eyesore.
All types of signs line highway 9, a heavily trafficked highway in boiling springs.
But its left over campaign signs that are giving some residents something to honk about.
Boiling springs resident dale burke says, "They are an eyesore and we'd like to keep boiling springs beautiful."
Trudy Gaffney says, "I just think it looks tacky with a lot, especially on the highway."
An Andre Bauer sign and Henry McMaster sign sit right by the highway, more than 6 weeks after he lost the republican nomination for governor.
Bill Hollenbeck says, “They should be down the day after the election. Someone should get rid of them."
Boiling spring’s residents want it removed. But the question is who is responsible for taking it down? We took our questions to the dot."
Pete Poore with the department of transportation says, "The people who put them there or the people who own them are responsible for removing them."
We also found out, by law, "political signs are illegal if erected within highway right away and visible from the main traveled way of the highway."
According to the dot, Andre Bauer and Henry McMaster are responsible for taking down these signs.
According to the law, if the signs are not removed, they could face a misdemeanor.
Poore says,” if someone is charged and convicted with this misdemeanor, the fine is not more than 100 dollars imprisonment for not more than 30 days."
Both parties were contacted about removing the signs today.
Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauers and Attorney General Henry McMaster’s camp told us they know about the campaign signs and they are removing them today.
