The next time you get a $50 or $100 bill, you may want to take a closer look.
Police and the Secret Service say they're seeing more counterfeit money in the Spartanburg area.
Spartanburg Public Safety says these $50 and $100 bills are "real, fake" money. Investigators say the bills are actually bleached $5 bills with the $50 and $100 denomination printed on top of them.
The way you can tell they are phony is by holding the bills up to the light and you can see the Abe Lincoln watermark and the security strip which says "five dollars".
Investigators say several local businesses have been hit with these fake bills recently.
The Secret Service tells us they made arrests Thursday morning in Greenville County for manufacturing counterfeit currency. But at this point they say it's too early to tell if the suspect is connected to the phony money in Spartanburg.
