Liberty Elementary School celebrated surpassing a goal they set to raise money for the annual “Pennies for Patients” drive sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Students and staff participated in this fundraiser in honor of Natalie Kristiansen, a third grade student at Liberty Elementary who was diagnosed last year with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in May of 2009.
Once the students surpassed their original goal of $2,000, Principal Lowell Haynes challenged students to raise $4,000.00 for this cause with the promise of allowing Natalie to “buzz his hair.”
Students collected $5,518.27
On Thursday the entire student body gathered at the Liberty High stadium to celebrate their achievement. Natalie sang the Miley Cyrus song, "The Climb" and balloons were released from the stadium before they ate snowcones in honor of Mr. Haynes' new rounded cut.
