The trial for accused murderer Brian Sturgeon began Monday in Greenville County.
Sturgeon is charged with the December 2007 murder of Jandie Finley. After receiving a tip, Greenville County Sheriff’s deputies found Finley’s body on a service road off of Agnew Road.
Authorities say that Sturgeon met Finley and an acquaintance, William Hembree, at Hunting Ridge Apartments and a fight started. They say Sturgeon shot Hembree and Finley, killing her, and then fled with her body inside his car. Hembree managed to escape.
Sturgeon allegedly drove around with her body in the trunk asking people for help in disposing of her body.
Pickens County Sheriff’s deputies say he found 43-year old Doyle Edward Gillespie, of Pickens, and 30-year old Sabrina Michelle Fuller, of Williamston, and they helped him set the car on fire and he disposed of the body. Gillespie, Fuller and Sturgeon were all charged with arson.
The Greenville Solicitor’s Office said jury selection wrapped up Monday and arguments began.
Sturgeon, who was arrested on December 4, 2007, is also charged with assault with intent to kill and kidnapping. Sturgeon has also been charged with the 1995 murder of Debbie Wright in Louisville, Kentucky.
