An Upstate man has been arrested, is facing multiple charges, after deputies say he is responsible for two robberies and an assault Monday, as well as a previous violent home invasion earlier this year.
Monday, Spartanburg County deputies say a man approached employees at Smilemakers, a supply company on Sha Lane, just off Highway 221, wearing a ski mask.
They say he approached a group sitting outside at one of the company tables, and tried to steal a woman's purse. When she resisted, he swung at her with a hammer, getting the purse.
He then fled in his truck up 221, where deputies say he stopped at Cherokee Springs Baptist Church, went inside and assaulted an employee, stealing his wallet. That employee, a caretaker for the church, has bruises and cuts all over his body from the attack.
The suspect then sped towards the Chesnee area, where deputies caught up with him. He flipped his truck, attempted to flee, and was caught.
The man is identified as 31 year old Jason Williams.
When Williams was walked out of the Sheriffs department Monday night, headed to jail, he appeared shirtless, and spoke to News Channel 7's Jonathan Carlson: "I'm sorry for what I did... I wish I could take it back," he said to our cameras.
Note from the editors: Earlier Monday, wspa.com reported the robbery happened at a dentist's office on Shaw Lane instead of at Smilemakers on Sha Lane. This information, which we later learned was not accurate, was based on reports from county dispatchers and officials from the Sheriff's Office. When more accurate information was available, the story was corrected.
