A Greenville woman is under arrest, charged in the death of a two-year old girl who’d suffered injuries from “shaken baby syndrome.”
Judy Mae Greer, 51, is charged with homicide by child abuse. She is being held Tuesday at the Greenville County Detention Center.
Greenville Police say they were investigating the case Monday after a report of possible child abuse. Officers were told by Greenville Hospital System staff that the child, Jakorsha Dodd, died around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
A family member told investigators that while trying to rock the child to sleep, the young girl was shaken until she became quiet and still.
Other family members said they don't believe the story. The same family members said they saw a television fall on the child.
GHS workers say the two-year old girl was brought to the emergency room around 11:15 a.m. Monday suffering from respiratory distress and was non-responsive.
A pediatrician at GHS told police the child was undergoing severe injuries that were consistent with “shaken baby syndrome.”
