Greenville police said two men attempted to rob a 39-year-old woman on her porch Thursday in an apartment complex on Ridge Road.
The maintenance man took action to try and protect the residents.
He greased the fence to try and keep unwanted individuals out of the apartment.
The woman was attacked when two men ran up to her and knocked several items off of her porch. They say one of the men pushed the woman down and pressed a gun to her face.
Both subjects tried to pull her purse and bag from her hand as she was on the ground. They told her repeatedly to "give it up" but she held on the items. Investigators say the men ran away when she started screaming for help.
Police used K-9 units to track the suspects but could not locate them.
