The Greenville County Sheriff's Office has charged three young girls in a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax.
An 11, 12 and 13 year old girl were charged with possession/distribution of a hoax device of destruction which is a felony charge.
Deputies say the three suspects placed the hoax device in the victim's mailbox and meant it for their 12-year old son. Investigators say they attempted to do this Sunday evening, but the victim's husband was in the yard at the time.
All three suspects were released to the custody of their parents and must report to family court.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office’s Bomb Squad was called out to the home on Morrison Drive in Travelers Rest Tuesday afternoon, after a resident came home and found the suspicious package in the mail box.
Writing on the outside of the package stated the box would explode.
Inside the box, the bomb squad found a balloon with smiley faces with "enjoy" written on it.
The neighborhood was evacuated as the bomb squad investigated.
It was soon determined it was an innocent hoax.
The homeowner who discovered the box declined comment.
