Update: May 17th, 4:30pm:
The Mayor Of West Pelzer confirms Wilson has been fired from his job, and a search is on for a replacement.
Original Story:
SLED charged the chief of the West Pelzer Police with two counts of misconduct in office for allegedly stealing guns and selling them, according to a release from the division Friday.
Bernard Lloyd Wilson II, 38, is accused of taking more than 10 guns seized during investigations and during unlawful traffic stops in town, SLED stated.
Warrants state Wilson sold or traded the weapons at pawn and gun shops in South Carolina and used the money for the benefit of the West Pelzer Police Department.
They also state Wilson repurchased and resold guns sold by the Police Department at significantly higher prices than the original.
SLED who is investigating at the request of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, said the alleged crimes happened from Sept. 2004 to Jan. 2010.
Wilson's bond was set at $10,000. He was released from jail late Friday night.
The West Pelzer Council voted to suspend Wilson with pay when the SLED investigation began in the case in January.
The mayor said if charges were brought, then the council would make a decision about Wilson’s job. No decision was made as of Friday evening.
