One of the leading candidates for Governor of South Carolina is facing allegations of extramarital relations.
A popular political blogger, with ties to the Sanford administration claims he had an "inappropriate relationship" with Representative Nikki Haley, while he was single and she was married.
He has yet to say the extent of that relationship or produce evidence of it.
Haley is running for Governor, and leading in a recent poll. She was in Greenville Monday night to speak to business leaders. But what's making local and national headlines--an allegation from blogger Will Folks.
He's Governor Mark Sanford's former spokesman and says he's a supporter of Haley's.
But he announced on his website monday that he and haley had an inappropriate physical relationship a few years ago while he was single and she was married.
Answering questions from News Channel 7, with her husband standing at her side, Haley said, "Michael and I have been married for 13 years. We have been faithful to each other."
She refused to discuss any prior relationship with Folks, inappropriate or not.
"This is a distraction I refuse to take place in."
She also said of the bombshell accusation, "My concern has been for my kids, that are 8 and 11. They don’t deserve this. My husband {and I}--we know were ready to fight this."
Folks has refused all requests for interviews.
Monday night's forum was sponsored by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce.
The candidates discussed ways to invite and keep business in the Upstate. It was not an official debate.
Also Monday, Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin came to the defense of Haley. Palin endorsed Haley for governor.
Folks says he was announcing the story himself because parts of it were being leaked to the media and he was told at least one story would be published this week.
Folks wrote, "I can sleep at night knowing I handled this the best way I knew how (the way my wife and I decided together that it needed to be handled), which was to simply tell the truth."
