Students say vulgar words and pictures were spray painted outside Boiling Springs High School just days after suspended seniors were told they would be allowed to participate in their graduation ceremony.
According to Spartanburg District 2 Superintendent Dr. Scott Mercer, “We had extensive spray painting done at the back of Boiling Springs High School sometime late last evening or in the early morning hours today. It is being pressure washed and sand blasted. A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.” He says it’s a $200 reward at that they do have leads.
Last Thursday, the District says more than a dozen seniors were disciplined after they soaked a hallway with soap and water. Seniors say “Operation Clean the Floor” was a senior prank. They say they were suspended for the remainder of the year and told they would be allowed to take exams on Tuesday. On Friday, the District told parents and News Channel 7 the students would be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies. District Spokesperson Rhonda Henderson said, "Labeling a disturbance inside the school during the school day a “senior prank” minimizes the bad behavior, and most BSH seniors were where they should have been, doing what they should have been doing, so it is a misnomer. About a dozen students were directly involved. Though taking away the privilege of walking at graduation was seriously considered as one of the consequences, other discipline measures have been implemented. It is our policy to keep student discipline matters between the school and the parties involved, but possible consequences include detention, suspension, and expulsion."
