Text messages have been posted--that a political blogger says proves he was forced to reveal a relationship with Nikki Haley. He also says, the Haley campaign told him to "Deny" the story if it broke. In the end, he broke it first.
Will Folks says one of the texts he released on his site--is from him to Haley--a week before this broke. Contradicting her claim she didn't know about it.
Also part of the texting ring--Haley's campaign manager Tim Pearson--and political consultant Wes Donehue.
Wednesday, Folks posted on his website--not the evidence to prove a physical relationship with Gubernatorial candidate Haley. But text messages he says show others were pushing for the story to get published. So, he says, he had to break it first.
The messages between Haley campaign manager Pearson and Folks, center much on who may break the story first, and when, and how to stop it.
One of the most telling texts reads:
Pearson: "I'm telling you man, we keep this under wraps and NH is going to win."
The third party in the texts--and he appears often--is political consultant Wes Donehue.
Folks insinuates Donehue knows too much and is pushing the story. Some heated exchanges between Folks and Donehue ensue.
Folks texts Pearson to say: "Once again Donehue reported to be the instigator."
For the first time since this story broke, blogger Will Folks is giving his most detailed interview yet exclusively to WSPA.
Carlson: "Should people believe you?"
Folks: "I think as this story progresses, everything's gonna come out and everyone shouldn't have trouble knowing who to believe."
Carlson: "Now you started this--when is it gonna end?"
Folks: "Don't know yet."
Folks says there are more texts between him and Haley that will be released at his lawyer's direction. He also said there may be a picture released as well.
Carlson: "Will this come to a conclusion before the June 8th primary?"
Folks: "That ain't up to me really."
Carlson: "Don't the voters have a right to know everything you have before then?"
Folks: "Its gonna be up to what my lawyers advise me."
Carlson: "Have your heard from the Nikki Haley campaign or Haley herself since this all broke?"
Folks: "You know that's unfortunate because I spent two weeks keeping them apprised of everything. All the rumors--the fact that there has been no communication--listen--I understand they were gonna deny it, I get that. But I think they could have targeted their fire at the people spreading that stuff and not come after me the way they did."
Folks: "My role is to protect my family--protect my name--my business. All three of which have come under siege, simply because I was forced into a position about having to tell the truth about something"
Folks: "I didn't want to be in this position."
Folks says he sent Haley a message before the story broke.
Folks: " I sent her a text message letting her know this is what I was gonna do"
Folks: "They asked me to deny it. I told them I couldn't do that."
News Channel 7 also tracked down Wes Donehue Wednesday night, for comment on his appearances in the released texts.
Carlson: "Wes...so did you start this?"
Donehue: "No comment"
Carlson: "Well you are one of the reported "instigators"?
Donehue: "I was drug into something I didn't want to be drug into. I have no comment on everything else.."
Carlson: "But you had a lot of comments in those texts-how come you have no comment now?"
Donehue: "My texts were private--I didn't expect them to become public."
Carlson: "Well their public now... do you regret anything you said in them?"
Donehue: "I regret cursing so much."
Since the texts include Haley's campaign manager, they contradict her earlier statements that the campaign was unaware the story was going to break.
Nikki Haley nor her campaign manager, Mr. Pearson would comment.
Haley's campaign manager confirmed to CNN that the text messages are authentic.
