A judge sentenced James Brian Steele to six months in prison Thursday after the Williamston Police Officer pleaded guilty to misconduct in office, according to the attorney general’s office.
Mark Plowden, with the AG’s office, said Steele responded to a civil disturbance in Clinton while serving as an officer there in 2008.
While there, Plowden said, he saw drugs in a woman’s purse. He told the woman if she performed oral sex on him, he wouldn’t arrest her. She did, Plowden said.
Clinton PD fired Steele.
Steele went to work with the Williamston PD. After being hired, the charges were flred, Plowden said.
As part of the sentence he has to quit his job as a police officer. He is no longer eligible to serve in law enforcement.
A judge sentenced Steele to 8 years in prison, suspended to six month. Steele also got two years of probation and 300 hours of community service when he’s released from prison.
