Easley Police: Man Used Craigslist To Solicit Sex At Library

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Easley Police Chief Danny Traber said that a library patron saw the ad on Craigslist and called the library director to report it.

The patron gave Anderson a description of the man and his clothing, and she called police and told them about the ad.

Traber said, "There were postings on Craigslist that were of a sexual nature."

An undercover officer went to the library.

"The individual, at that time, more or less attempted some sexual conduct, contact with our officer,” Traber said. “At that point in time, the officer identified himself as an officer and initiated arrest."

James Michael Stewart, 46, of Easley, is charged with lewdness in a public place and resisting arrest.

According to Easley police, Stewart tried to get away, but there were other officers waiting outside the restroom who stopped him.

Investigators said so far, Stewart is connected to one of the five ads they found on Craigslist.

Stewart’s bond is set at more than $1,500.

Police said no children were involved in this incident, but they encourage parents to stay with their children in the library.
