South Carolina made history this weekend when the USC Gamecocks beat the top ranked
After the USC Gamecocks made history by beating Alabama on Saturday, a local t-shirt store that not only predicted the win, but correctly guessed the final score, is helping fans remember the game with some new gear.
“Eat More Tees” in Columbia has been making Carolina and Clemson t-shirts for close to a decade now and after the Carolina upset against Alabama this weekend, they’re really getting good.
“The second we won, our phones starter ringing for orders,” said owner Kevin Schumacher.
On average, the Gamecock’s winning or losing affects the stores business by $10,000- $20,000. Nobody expected South Carolina to win against the Crimson Tide who was ranked number one in the country but as always, Schumacher began designing the upset t-shirt long before the game even began.
“We have to make the shirts before the game and send them to get approved by Collegiate Licensing,” said Schumacher.
“Eat More Tee’s” is a local printer for many of the bookstores and businesses in South Carolina but it wasn’t a role Schumacher was excited to do at first. He was resistant because of the hassle that can come with the licensing process and getting approval for each shirt before it can be printed.
Although it took a little convincing, Schumacher decided to give it a chance and has become one of the cities leading printers.
The store began to print a few different victory t-shirts. One simply read “We Beat Bama” and another, which would become the current best selling shirt, read “We Rolled Over Their Tide with Our Carolina Pride”.
When sending the Carolina pride t-shirt to be approved, the team guessed the final score of the game like they do for every games, only for the first time ever, they were correct.
“You put a score on there just to predict…we’ve never gotten it right. Who would have thought in beating number one Alabama, we would guess the score correctly,” said Schumacher.
Employees even worked on Sunday, which is usually their day off, to get a head start on printing orders from across the state. Schumacher says the Carolina Pride shirt is special because it really tells the story of the game and is very catchy.
The Shirt will be sold at SC Place in the upstate, Palmetto Moon and Carolina Company in Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Summerville, Phonetic fans in North Charleston, Tomlinson’s in Georgetown, AllStar Sports will have it in Florence. Schumacher also expects many more orders to come in the next few days.
After the upset, “Eat More Tee’s” also decided to make score shirt for each home game at William Brice Stadium. The shirts average about twenty dollars and you can also order online at http://www.eatmoretees.com/.
Because of the Carolina upset, USC is also the first team to beat number one teams in basketball, baseball and football, all in one year. You can be sure “Eat More Tees” has a “Making History” tee that is expected to be available by October 13.
