Scam From Jamaica Targeting Upstate Residents

NewsChannel 7 has learned of a scam that involves someone or more than one person from Jamaica, calling victims and promising cars and money in exchange for wiring cash from your local WalMart. But even when you hang up--the calls don't end.

We spoke with one Jonesville woman who says she has been getting the calls for more than two weeks. Instead of falling for the scam she called the police, and they are investigating.

Betty Mitchell told us, " The chief of police told me if anyone calls and you don't know the number, don't answer it. So that's what I've been doing."

Officers are calling this latest scam a "flim flam", also known as a swindle. They say the investigation into who is making the calls is ongoing.

We also traced the phone numbers back to Jamaica, and found this is a scam that has been going on for at least two years now.
