For the second time this week, Greenville County deputies have arrested someone for leaving a child in a hot car.
Newschannel 7 has learned the incident occurred outside a Goodwill store in a shopping plaza near the intersection of Highway 253 and White Horse Road around 10:00 a.m. Friday. According to Master Deputy Sam Cureton, someone noticed the child and called 911. 50 year old Marcia Conte was arrested.
Workers inside the Goodwill store told Newschannel 7 that Conte went inside to shop, and left the three year old in the vehicle.
Earlier this week, deputies arrested Shirley Ryder and Michelle Cruse, after witnesses spotted an 18 month old boy alone in a hot car near the Ingles at Cherrydale in Greenville County. Deputies estimate the little boy had been left for at least 30 minutes. Both women were charged with unlawful neglect of a child. Thursday, attorney Mary Alice Godfrey, who represents the boy's mother, told us that she had found the babysitter, Cruse, on Craigslist and had done extensive background checks. They have not decided whether they will seek legal action.
Marcia J. Conte was released on a personal recognizance bond of $1,093.
She only has to pay it if she doesn’t show in court.
